The Rioja region, located in northern Spain, is divided into three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental (formerly known as Rioja Baja), each with its own unique climate and soil type that contribute to the characteristics of the wines. The wines of Rioja are primarily based on the Tempranillo grape, supplemented with Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, and are known for their balance of fruit and structure, as well as their potential for aging.

• Crianza : Matured for at least one year in oak barrels and an additional year in bottle, Crianza wines are known for their freshness and fruity character.
• Reserva : With an older profile, the Reserva wines offer greater complexity, matured for at least three years, including at least one year in barrel.
• Gran Reserva : The most prestigious wines from Rioja, Gran Reservas require at least five years of aging before release, including two years in barrel, and present an extraordinary depth and complexity.
