Beyerskloof Lagare Cape Vintage 2020

This wine is Beyerskloof's homage to the classic port styles - a Cape Vintage made from traditional Portuguese grapes grown in Stellenbosch. The name Lagare refers to the open granite vats where the grapes are trampled by foot, just like in the Douro Valley, ensuring a gentle but effective extraction of colour, aroma and tannin.

In the glass, the wine appears a deep dark red, almost black, with purple hues. The nose is intense and youthful, filled with blackcurrant, black cherry, plum and blackberry , enveloped in nuances of licorice, cocoa, black pepper and a touch of violets .

The palate is powerful and concentrated , yet silky and rounded. The ripe, dark fruit notes are complemented by layers of chocolate, coffee, dried figs and spices , while the tannins provide structure without dominating. The balance between fruit sweetness, body and fresh acidity creates a wine that is both impressively intense and harmonious. The finish is long, warming and complex , with persistent notes of dark fruit and spice.

Ageing potential: The wine can be enjoyed now for its youthful richness, but will develop further over the next 10–15 years, where tertiary notes of tobacco, leather and dried fruit will become more evident.

Perfect companion for blue cheese, dark chocolate, nut-based desserts or simply as a luxurious glass in peace and quiet.
