Domaine Philippe Bouzerau Coteaux Bourguignons Chardonnay ECO 2022

2022 Coteaux Bourguignons Chardonnay Eco from Domaine Philippe Bouzereau is part of the relatively new appellation, Coteaux Bourguignons, established in 2012. This AOC/AOP in Burgundy includes white, rosé and red wines that can come from the entire Burgundy region, from Auxerre in the north to Beaujolais in the south (encompassing the Yonne, Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire and Rhône departments). The new appellation replaces the former Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire, which was permitted until 2013. The white wines can be made from grapes such as Chardonnay, Aligoté, Melon, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Rosé wines, which can be labeled as Clairet, can be made from Gamay, Pinot Noir, César (only in Yonne) and Pinot Gris, as well as Aligoté, Chardonnay, Melon and Pinot Blanc, with the latter four grapes making up a maximum of 10% of the wine. Red wines can be produced from Pinot Noir, Gamay and César (the latter only in Yonne), with the possibility of including up to 10% of grapes such as Aligoté, Chardonnay, Gamay de Bouze, Gamay de Chaudenay, Melon, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The Bouzereau family, who have been growing wine in the Côte de Beaune for nine generations since the 18th century, bought the famous Château de Cîteaux in 1995, where they concentrated their wine production. Philippe Bouzereau, who took over the company in 2006 after studying wine in Beaune and working in Beaujolais, Australia and New Zealand, has expanded to 18 hectares of vineyards, mainly in Meursault. In 2010, the family sold Château de Cîteaux, but kept the vineyards. They have always practiced "Agriculture Raisonnée" and only use their own clones to highlight the terroir in the wines. In 2015, they switched to organic cultivation, and from 2022 the wines will be certified organic. Philippe's brother, Charles Bouzereau, is now also part of the company, which Philippe describes as a strength: "Alone you go fast, but together you go further!"
